Experience
A multilingual language tutor with a B.S. in journalism and an M.A. in Spanish literature and linguistics, I am passionate about language, culture and flawless grammar. Having lived in Ecuador and Brazil and done business throughout South America, I have extensive international experience and believe that cultural awareness is integral to language learning. Rather than simply teach students the basics of grammar and vocabulary, I strive to present the material through a lens of art, music and history, and tailor the lesson to suit the interests of my students. I believe that doing so not only creates a more enriched and fulfilling educational experience, but fosters a personal connection to the material that is essential to a student's success. I have taught Spanish to students at the elementary, high school and university levels, and understand the implications and challenges of each. What they all have in common, however, is the overwhelming perception that the difficulties of foreign language are insurmountable. I can change that. My fluency in English, Spanish and Portuguese has enabled me to develop a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of language and grammar. Likewise, nearly perfect scores (35) on the reading and writing sections of the ACT coupled with TEFL teaching experience and my background in journalism are a testament to my adherence to grammatical excellence.
